Fasting or Sawm is the way of attaining nearness to Allah.

  Fasting or Siam is the way of attaining nearness to Allah Fasting, known as  Sawm  in Islam, is indeed one of the fundamental acts of worship and a means of attaining nearness to Allah (God). It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and holds great spiritual significance. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world fast from dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib), abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs as a form of devotion and self-discipline. The primary purpose of fasting is to develop  taqwa  (God-consciousness), as mentioned in the Quran: "O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous (achieve taqwa)."
